brb there's blood in my hair

so that was an actual phrase i used tonight.  and not for any bad reasons.  tonight was the practice run for the zombie march, so they showed us a few different special effect techniques.  basically, lots of liquid latex (love that stuff), cotton, bruise make up, and of course, a shit ton of fake blood.  which happens to be edible.  the end result will be something like this:

i added my white outs after.  very happy with the effect it has.  i just rolled them back for the pic.  love, love, love it.  oh and as a full disclaimer, i did not apply my own make up here.  we were practicing on each other, so one of the other guys did mine.  i was working on making some girl's arm look like it was all bruised to hell.  and i think i did a pretty good job of it.  can't wait until friday!

and as a ps, if you are going to the march and want me to be your effects artist, let me know and i will sign you up on my time sheet.

more on the way

what up all you non-blizzcon going people?  miss me while i was out having an awesome time?  yeah, i know you did.  but rest assured, i'm back bitches!  with amazing stories and fascinating pictures.  well, at least they are to me, and since it's my blog, that's all that matters.  short recap: i got in the costume contests, didn't place but had a lot of fun.  used the stage name "camma" if you want to see it.  the new expansion is not going to be that bad, so stop freaking out.  the monk is actually fun.  blizzard most definitely loves WoW players more than any other group of gamers because we get way more cool stuff when, like diablo 3 for free.  the foo fighters put on the best show that i have ever seen.  and my costume was beyond kick ass looking.  don't believe me?  see for yourself:

sooooo happy with how it looked.  and that is like my new favorite pic.  more awesomeness is on the way, but it's going to take me a bit to sort it all out and such, so just hang tight.  trust me, it's worth it.

some final thoughts

last update before i go.  the costume is finished!  i have no idea why i was so last minute about it.  i mean i'm leaving in the morning.  but at least it's done now.  i found some cool ribbon that i'm gluing to my arms in place of upper arm bands.  ribbon is way cheaper than metal.

and it's all shinny and pretty and stuff.  as for the dress, i finally made the front piece.  took about an hour because i had to wait for the pain coats to dry, but it looks pretty bad ass if i do say so myself.  sewing it on was a bitch because i don't have a proper sewing table or anything.  so now my neck and back hurt from hunching over.  oh how i suffer for my art.  but it was totally worth it.

over all, super happy with how everything pulled together.  and that's all for now folks.  like i said last year,
I'M OFF TO BLIZZCON BITCHES!

the dress!

so i spent some time finishing up a few things on my dress tonight.  yeah, i'm being last minute about it, but whatever.  as long as it's done by friday, that's all that matters.  anyway, this is what the dress looked like to start with:

felt a little bit like vanna white there, but whatever.  i needed a way to show off what the dress looked like before i did anything.  as you can see, it's a spaghetti strap with an open chest.   you may also notice that it looks a bit loose at the top.  that's because i couldn't zip it all the way because my boobs are too damn big.  so that was the challenge.  fix the front and fix the back.  the front was the easy part.

i just cut the straps at the  back to make it into a halter top.  it had these thin little straps that the see through material was attached to, so i just removed those completely.  the dress came with this little shawl thing that was made of the same see through material, so i used that to make the neck piece and fill in the chest.  the back was a bit trickier, but not too complicated.

it started as a zip up.  if you look close, you can see where i drew faint little circles.  these were cut out with an x-acto and using a $3 eyelet kit, replaced with nickle grommets, six on each side.  this way i could still zip the bottom part, and lace up the top part to give a better fit.  plus corset backs just look prettier anyway.

<-- one side done

                     both sides done -->

over all, i'm pretty happy with how it turned out.  you'll noticed i laced it so it ties at the bottom.  this is because i am dressing by myself this year and don't have anyone to help tie me in.  and from lots of experience with tying my own bodice, i've learned a few tricks.  having all the laces in a downward direction with a tie at the bottom makes it much easier to adjust alone.  there are fancier ways to do the lacing, but they are way harder to adjust behind your back.  oh and speaking of behind your back, it's really, really hard to take a picture of behind your own back.

just saying.  anyway, that's all for tonight, still adding details to it, but i might not have a chance to post more pics before blizzcon.  which is in three days.  omg i still have so much to do.

becoming tyrande

to anyone who came here because of reddit:  yes i am aware of the mean image that sent you here.  i really don't need to be reminded of it in the comments on my own blog.  please be kind enough to keep hurtful comments to yourself.  it's bad enough that there is already a thread on your own website about it, i don't need that here on mine.

i haven't update you all on my costume in a little while, so i'm fixing that today.  i have all of my make up and prosthetics now, and i'm probably eighty five percent done with the dress.  when i got the dress, it was a spaghetti strap with an open chest.  i converted it to a halter tops, and used this see through like fabric to cover the neck and chest.  as for my overall transformation, here's a step-by-step of the process i need to go through.  the whole thing takes a little over an hour to finish.

so here's me, all make up free and such and still looking like a normal person.  when ever you are doing any kind of stage make up, start with a clean face.

in case you are wondering why it takes me an hour to get ready, remember i'm doing full body paint.  oh and all this stuff, is just for my face.

first i'm using scar wax to cover my eyebrows.  after that has dried, like really, really dried, use your normal foundation to blend it in.  don't put the foundation on before it sets or it will smudge all weird.

now comes the body paint.  my scar wax and both shades of paint are by ben nye.  the shade i'm using all over is amethyst, and is a powder that can be applied either wet or dry.  i applied it dry with a make up sponge.  the face markings are from the fx line and the color is grey purple.  it's a cream that i applied with an eye shadow brush.

next comes the contacts.  ideally, it is better to put contacts in before any make up is applied, but considering i can't see as well with them in and i kinda want me face makings even, i just (carefully) put them in after.  for my lips i used the same paint as i did for the markings.

now is when i would put my wig cap on, but i couldn't find it so i'm temporarily making due without one.  because of how my ears attach, i'm putting those on before my wig.  also note that i have my hair pinned up so it lays flat under the wig.

next comes the dress.  before i put that on, i sprayed a sealant over the body paint to minimize paint transfer onto my dress.  i'm putting this on before my wig also, since it's a halter top and easier to tie up and attach the neck piece without long blue hair in the way.

finally, i put my wig on.  after the wig is positioned where i want it, i apply my fake eyelashes and my eyebrows.  i'm putting these one after the wig so the hairs don't snag on them while i'm adjusting it.  oh and i'm using hair extension feathers for my eyebrows, attached with a little spirit gum.

and that's how i'm becoming tyrande whisperwind.  i'm still going to be adding a few extra details, like a moon circlet, and some extras to the dress, but at least now you're caught up on my progress.  feel free to contact me if you want any tips for your own costumes.  aside from blizzcon, halloween is just around the corner :)

BRAINS!!!

via
so i'm crazy excited for october 28th now.  my tattoo artist is putting on a zombie march/pub crawl.  and i can't wait for it!  all i had to hear was "costumes" and "drinking" and i was all over that like white on rice.  in case you don't know, a zombie march is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: a large group of people dressed as zombie walking around a public area.  since this one is a pub crawl, we will be hitting up the bars down town as well.  traditional tattoo is the coordinator of the event, and the best part is that they are providing people to do zombie make up for everyone involved.  for free.  because they are awesome.  they just ask that you show up in "zombie attire," which i take to mean torn clothing that you don't mind getting covered in fake blood.  i'm way more excited about this than i thought i would be.  i'm not really into zombies in general, but this event just sounds way too fun to pass up.  plus my guy is going with me, and so are a few other friends.  i can't wait to see us all made up as zombies.  in a weird way, it's a bonding experience.  now i just need to figure out what i'm wearing.  part of me really wants to do zombie prom queen.  methinks it may be time to hit up the thrift stores.  plan b, if i can't find a suitable prom dress, if just simple jeans and tank top.  i have some old jeans that are starting to tear anyway, so i figure i can rip those up without loosing any good clothes.  and i can get a simple white tank top for like $5.  i don't want to go want to go crazy tearing up a top, since i need it to stay on to avoid public indecency charges.  i figure a few small tears and one good horizontal slash across the chest to show some (more) cleavage would be sufficient.  after all, who says zombies can't be sexy?

because i hate doing dishes

title pretty much explains it all.  i detest doing the dishes.  what i would give to have a dishwasher installed in my apartment.  ask anyone who comes over, and 90% of the time they will tell you that i have a sink full of bowls and silverware.  usually just bowls and silverware.  that is because i use paper plates and plastic cups so i don't have to wash them.  paper bowels don't work worth a shit, and plastic silverware is hit or miss.  so that long intro leads up to this simple conclusion.  i wanted ice cream.  i didn't have any clean bowls.  i am now eating ice cream out of a plastic cup.  because i'm that awesome.

because it's chocolate ice cream, it was kinda hard to get a pic that didn't remind me of something gross.  i did my best.  the spoon helped a bit.
